Careers in Cybersecurity

Careers in Cybersecurity: A Cisco Annual Security Report warned that the worldwide shortage of information security professionals is about 1 million available openings and they are projected to increase as cyber attacks and data breaches become more frequent each year.

Increasing Demand for Careers in Cybersecurity

The demand for cybersecurity jobs is increasing at a rate that is three times as fast as traditional IT jobs1. The increasing frequency of cyber breaches is hitting the industry hard enough to make companies and individuals think about techniques and tools for keeping information secure.

The Evolution of Cybersecurity Careers

In the past, cybersecurity jobs were mostly found in the defense and government sectors. Today, the industry has evolved to encompass all organizations in the public and private sectors, changing the way business is done dramatically and even how sensitive content and information is stored on personal devices. Data has become one of the most valued assets of an organization with its safety being most crucial.

Industries that maintain a vast amount of consumer data have the fastest growing demand for cybersecurity employees.  According to a the Burning Glass Cybersecurity Jobs, 2015  Report, the industries with the most growth include Finance (+137% from 2010-2015), Health Care (+121%), and Retail Trade (+89%).1

“If you are thinking about a career change in 2016, then you might want to have a look at the burgeoning cybersecurity market which is expected to grow from $75 billion in 2015 to $170 billion by 2020.”
